Nuclear Explosions in the Oklo Mine

How many people can honestly say that they remember announcements that were made by the French Atomic Energy Commission, almost fifty years ago?

Some felt that the mention of the French authority narrowed the possible answers to this question down to former French colonies. I disagree; I can't see why the French Atomic Energy Commission should restrict itself to announcements about former French colonies. And in any case ... there were 40 words in this question, 36 of which came after "French". (And that's if you count "nineteen seventy-two" as one word.) By the time I had to answer (it was my question) I'd forgotten that it was the French Atomic Energy Commission we were talking about.

Personally, I'd never heard of the Oklo Mines. For me it was a case of "pick an African country". There are only about 53 to choose from.

Actually, I'm being a bit disingenuous there. It was a case of "pick an African country that's got uranium mines". I had a feeling that Zimbabwe did, so that's what I went for; and that was what prompted the comment about it having to be a former French colony. Which I disagree with.
